About Rebecca
Having studied A-Levels In Chemistry, Human Biology and Mathematics, I went on to study for a BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Southampton. Since then I have undertaken several qualifications in Learning and Development.
I am a personal tutor with 15 years experience, specialising in the key areas of Maths and Sciences, from Key Stage 2 up to A-Level. I offer 1:1 lessons either online or at my classroom in Uffculme.
I enjoy teaching a wide range of students in a huge range of subjects. These include GCSE and A Level exam preparation, numeracy revision for PGCE students, students taking ‘Access to Higher Education’ courses, and Key Skills for Life courses for adults. I also provide support in University applications.
My aim is to help every student achieve their potential, nurture their individual talents and guide and motivate them towards their academic goals.

Mathematics
Mathematics is a vital subject to us all, giving us skills in interpreting data, logical thinking, budget planning and so much more as we move through secondary school into adult life. From algebra to geometry, my enthusiasm for the subject is proven to be contagious, and has often resulted in previously reluctant mathematicians choosing to go on to further study the subject!
From Key Stage 2 up to GCSE, lessons are tailored to the individual, ensuring lessons are fun, challenging and motivational. I use curriculum-appropriate worksheets and practice questions, with online games and tests for the consolidation of learning. This ensures constant feedback to the child and the parent, demonstrating the improvement in performance, and building confidence in their abilities.
Emphasis is placed on the basics of mathematics, including ‘times tables’, fractions, decimals and percentages, to ensure a thorough grounding in the skills which will become more vital at higher levels.
“The transformation in Josh has been amazing! He really struggled with maths, but you showed him the joy in it, and he is thrilled with his GCSE grade. Thank you so much”
– Sarah T, GCSE Mathematics

A Level Biology and Chemistry
The ‘jump’ from GCSE to A-Level is a large one, and this is especially true for the sciences! This can be unsettling for students, many of whom excelled at sciences at GCSE. However, with a little early consolidation of the key concepts, Chemistry and Biology A-Level can start to look a lot more friendly!
I am highly experienced in tutoring A-Level scientists, and am very familiar with all the main examination boards. I can provide support and reinforcement of topics throughout your course, and then help with revision and exam techniques in the run-up to your exams. I can also offer support with personal statements and EPQ if required.
GCSE Sciences
Sciences, either separately as Chemistry, Biology and Physics or taught as Combined/Applied Sciences are often a popular choice when selecting GCSE options, especially for students aspiring to a career in Medicine or Life Sciences.
As someone with a genuine passion for Sciences, I feel I can promote enthusiasm for the subject within my students, making the learning experience exciting and enjoyable.
Whether you are studying separate or combined sciences I can help you throughout the course and with revision sessions in the run-up to examinations.
“Thank you for all your support with GCSE’s and now my A levels. You helped me do better than I ever thought I could do! Also, thanks for helping with my EPQ and UCAS form; I wouldn’t be off to medical school without your help!”
— Maddy D, GCSE & A Level Sciences

Home Schooling
One of the more specialised tuition services I offer is that of home schooling. In some cases, due to many and varied reasons, full time school is not the best choice for a child.
One of the students I work with has home education one day per week to stretch her academically, and allow us time to explore ‘off curriculum’ topics which she finds interesting. Another is solely home schooled, and I am providing tuition as she works towards GCSEs in Maths and Sciences.
I have many years experience in working with children with EOTAS status, including those with complex educational needs. I can also help guide parents through the exam entry process for external candidates.
If you are considering exploring home education for your child, whether that’s full time or just one or two days per week, and are looking for more support, why not get in touch? I’m always happy to talk about options for your family.
“When we first met Becky, our son could not attend school due to severe anxiety and complex SEN. He was broken, depressed and disengaged from learning. From the moment Becky worked with him, she connected with him and just somehow understood what he needed. Becky really cared and with her support, he has become a different boy; happy, motivated and engaged. 3 years down the line, he has attained GCSE’s in the three sciences and maths at level 7/8. Becky has truly transformed my son’s life – she saw his potential and conveyed her belief in him, giving him the confidence that he could succeed”
